Barcelona are now ruling out a move for Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso after Spurs ‘rejected’ their offer for the Argentine.
That’s according to Sport, who say Lo Celso won’t be playing at the Nou Camp next season unless there is an unexpected turn of events.
The newspaper explains that Barcelona were interested in signing Lo Celso on loan and made a bid to do so but Tottenham turned it down out of hand.
They’re only interested in selling the player on their terms and ‘see no point’ in doing so unless their demands are met, something Barcelona seemingly did not do.
While manager Xavi is keen to sign another midfielder and would be happy with Lo Celso, Tottenham see no point in selling him in a deal which would guarantee them virtually no profit.
They continue to value him highly, particularly after something of a revival under Ange Postecoglou in pre-season, now considering him a part of the squad if they need to rotate or deal with injuries or suspensions.
Their stance might change is Barcelona were to put €10-15m on the table but the finances at the club won’t allow them to do that, particularly for a player who would be a complimentary addition to the squad rather than a key one.
Thus, any deal for Lo Celso appears unlikely and he’ll either be going somewhere else or remaining at Tottenham this summer.
