On August 20th, we covered claims from France which stated Tottenham Hotspur had ‘almost completed’ a move to sign Pape Matar Sarr from Metz.

The claims came out of nowhere, with the youngster previously being linked to several Premier League sides, including the Manchester clubs, but no reports of an imminent move to Spurs.

According to the original claims, Metz had been forced to drastically lower their asking price, due to having issues complying with the financial regulations for French football.

Therefore, the transfer fee was put at €10m plus a further €5m in bonus payments.

Various claims have since come from France, with the general consensus being that a deal is close to being done, although not everything is absolutely agreed. There’s been some confusion on whether Pape Matar Sarr will be returning to Metz to spend the rest of the new season on loan there.

Le10 Sport report Tottenham have ‘reached an agreement’ to sign the midfielder, however, their figures are much higher than what was initially claimed. The transfer fee is now said to be €30m, and it would be assumed that if that figure is correct then there’s a lot of bonuses involved, and a loan return is surely less likely.

Still, it’s stated talks between Spurs and the player’s entourage aren’t yet fully complete.
