Tottenham Hotspur have become the latest side to join the chase for River Plate star Julián Álvarez.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who have a report focusing on AC Milan’s interest and their past failed efforts to sign the forward.

It’s said the Rossoneri wanted to sign the player last year, but River Plate requesting his €25m release clause any transfer ‘had stopped the deal’.

There is a belief a discount could be offered for a possible transfer because the Argentina international’s contract will expire on December 31st, 2022.

Without an extension, River Plate may be forced to lower their price in order to not let Álvarez leave for nothing when his current deal runs down.

The Serie A side, however, are not the only club looking at the attacker, who can play anywhere up front.

Milan have several ‘rivals’ and Spurs are among them, along with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla.

That’s the only time Tottenham are mentioned in Calciomercato’s report, but we all know the club are looking at strikers, especially in the wake of the whole Harry Kane affair, so it’s only natural for Fabio Paratici to cast his net far and wide.

Álvarez scored a brace in River Plate’s 2-1 Superclásico victory over Boca Juniors, and with that, he now has seven goals and four assists to his name in 11 matches.
