With a contract expiring in the summer, Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen continues to be been linked with a move to Serie A.

The speculation was further fielded after the 32-year-old told the Belgian media earlier this week that he will “write down the pros and cons” of his future options.

Calciomercato are of the belief the centre-back’s comments indicate he will leave José Mourinho’s side as a free agent.

It’s also claimed Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta is probing the market to sign players on free transfers and the Spurs defender is included in his list. The Nerazzurri will allow Diego Godin to leave in the next window and want to replace him with an experienced player.

Vertonghen’s profile fits ‘what Inter want’ and the website further explains how his potential addition would benefit Antonio Conte’s side.

He’s at times been deployed on the left side of the three-man defence with Belgium, where he’s ‘one of the cornerstones’ for Roberto Martínez.

Inter currently have Alessandro Bastoni as the only left-footed centre-back at the San Siro. If they end up signing Vertonghen, Calciomercato reckons Conte could move Milan Škriniar to the right side of the back three, where he remains more comfortable.

The report suggests signing Vertonghen ‘can make everyone smile’; Inter, Conte and the players.

Whether Marotta will be able to convince the Tottenham player to join his side remains to be seen.
