It’s fair to say that Serge Aurier is not having a great season at Tottenham so far. Rather than establishing himself as first-choice at right-back, he’s struggled for form.
Sunday was more of the same from the defender, with him coming in for stern criticism from all angles following Tottenham’s defeat to Liverpool.
While Tottenham were left disappointed by his performance, it’s not the first time this season they’ve felt that way, it wasn’t a feeling that was shared by all.
Calciomercato cover the issue today, and they suggest that as far as AC Milan are concerned, Aurier continuing to disappoint could be considered an ‘assist’.
They explain that the defender ‘remains a name on the market’ for the Serie A side after he was ‘offered’ to them in the summer (presumably by an agent).
Milan’s interest never went away, though, and we’ve covered several reports that suggested they would move for him again come January, but their lack of options at the role means these attempts could be rebuffed.
Getting Aurier was always seen as complicated, though, given Spurs’ situation at right-back but the implication for Calciomercato is that if he continues to perform poorly, Tottenham may be convinced to sell and that would play into Milan’s hands.
