Super-agent Pini Zahavi met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Tuesday evening for a meal in the city, and to potentially discuss Tottenham’s Pierre Emile Højbjerg.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, relaying information from Jijantes, who say the pair met in a restaurant on Tuesday evening for discussions over something.
They explain that the Israeli agent maintains a ‘great relationship’ with Laporta, having been fundamental to the arrival of Robert Lewandowski at the club over a year ago.
That deal helped to fill a major hole in Barcelona’s squad at the time and now the focus is on doing the same, with Laporta having publically admitted they need a midfielder in January to help cover the loss of Gavi.
That is ‘one of the topics’ Zahavi could have been discussing with the Barcelona president at their recent meeting and one of the possible names to be looked at is Tottenham’s Højbjerg.
He’s been linked with a move away from the Premier League side for months after barely featuring under Ange Postecoglou since his arrival in the summer.
Several sides in Europe are thought to be keen on him, including Barcelona, who would eye up a loan deal until the end of the season to cover for Gavi without making a major outlay.
Zahavi represents the Danish midfielder and so could have been speaking to Laporta about him, although a contract renewal for Lewandowski, another of his clients, may have also been on the table.
Either way, Zahavi met with Laporta this week and so we’ll have to keep an eye on the Tottenham man in the coming weeks, as there’s every chance he’s on a list at Barcelona somewhere.
