From one man’s misfortune comes the fortune of another. That’s very much the case with injury withdrawals from international squads.
Manchester United pair Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have been forced to withdraw from international duty with France. The FFF have announced on Monday afternoon that Pogba has a lesion in his left thigh, and Martial has suffered an adductor issue.
They will be replaced by Alexandre Lacazette and Moussa Sissoko, in what will be some nice surprise news for the Arsenal and Tottenham players.
Lacazette may well have felt he deserved to be included anyway, given his performances for Arsenal so far this season, and Sissoko has long been a favourite of France manager Didier Deschamps.
Tottenham and Arsenal will hope having extra players on international duty doesn’t lead to any injury woes for themselves down the line.
For Martial the withdrawal will be especially annoying given he’s just managed to fight his way back into contention.
