As Tottenham fans will be sorely aware of, Eric Dier’s contract with the London club expires at the end of the season.
He has yet to sign a new one, meaning he will be free to speak to any foreign clubs from January onwards about a free transfer, or be sold for a minimal fee in the next transfer window to bring in some cash into their coffers.
Meanwhile, one club are keeping a close eye on the Tottenham defender, and that’s AS Roma, managed by José Mourinho, as reported by Roma Metropolitan Magazine.
The website explain the dire situation the Italian side when it comes to their defence, with the Special One claiming he could need a new centre-back in January.
They then reveal who the players ‘strongly sought after’ by technical director Tiago Pinto are, among which can be found the Tottenham player.
It’s said that two of them are from the Premier League, with one being Eric Dier and the other Trevoh Chalobah.
Regarding the England international, they claim he ‘will leave the London club’ in June, suggesting that a renewal isn’t even on the cards for him at Tottenham.
With two appearances in the Premier League this season, and nothing else to show for his efforts, an early exit could be something he is very interested in, but as previously pointed out, his lack of game time could also work against him, as Roma will want someone capable of contributing straight away without a need to get their fitness back up.
