In case you weren’t aware, Tottenham are in a bit of a pickle.

Dismantled by Bayern Munich 7-2 in the Champions League, Spurs then went on to lose 3-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League, making life very awkward for Mauricio Pochettino and his players.

Among those who played and suffered both defeats was Toby Alderweireld, whose contract with the club ends in the summer and is currently on international duty with Belgium.

Speaking ahead of the two Euro qualifiers against San Marino and Kazakhstan in a press conference, he briefly touched upon the situation at Tottenham.

He said, relayed by DH: “A career is made of ups and downs. A few months ago, we were playing in the Champions League finals. It’s proof that everything can change very quickly, whether it’s good or bad.

“You have to accept the current situation and not panic. All we need to do is win a few games to get back on track, but I’m not hiding that being with the national team is a nice change of scenery”.

You can hardly blame him, and this international break might prove to come at the right time for the whole Tottenham squad, allowing them to clear their heads before returning to London reinvigorated and determined to turn things around.

Whether they will do so with Pochettino still in charge remains to be seen, but early signs suggest the Argentine will still be there when they get back.
