Pierre-Emile Højbjerg spent much of the summer window linked with an exit from Tottenham. The midfielder’s status had dropped at Spurs, and it was thought he was looking for a way out of the club.
Atletico Madrid were repeatedly credited with interest, and even Manchester United were thought to be considering the Denmark international at one point, but nothing came to fruition and Højbjerg remained at the London club.
So far this season he’s made four appearances in the Premier League, all as a substitute. Ange Postecoglou has turned to different players and the midfielder is now just a squad option.
The Dabish newspaper quote him as saying: “I can confirm that the agreement has expired for both parties and that we are on good terms.
“But my focus is on the daily work effort, so it doesn’t matter to me and therefore I don’t want to go into this matter further.”
Ekstra Bladet say the split appears to be a ‘consequence’ of the failure to get a transfer during the last window. There’s no indication on who the Tottenham player will use to represent him in the future.
