Tottenham defender Davinson Sánchez is ‘close’ to joining Real Betis this summer, with a decision expected within a week.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say the defender ‘approaches’ the Spanish club and has made it clear he would be open to the switch.
They explain that Sánchez had been targeted by Galatasaray and Spartak Moscow in recent weeks but, according to TMW’s information, has ignored those interests and ‘shown appreciation’ for the project at Betis instead.
A negotiation between the two parties ‘seems to be well advanced’ and he is expected to make a final decision on his future within a week.
Everyone is currently happy with the potential move, with Betis getting a highly experienced player to bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s defence and Sánchez set to sign a contract worth €2m a year.
Tottenham are less happy than everyone else, though, as they are only set to earn €7m from the sale of a player who cost them €42m when he arrived from Ajax in 2017.
They’re being forced into a cheap sale because Sánchez’s contract at the club is set to expire in a year’s time, meaning Tottenham risked losing him on a free next year if they couldn’t find a suitor.
They now appear to have done so with Betis, who have made their move and are now waiting for Sánchez to make a final decision, amid other interest from PSV Eindhoven, who were said to be continuing to try and get the Colombia international.
