It seems that Eric Dier’s lack of playing time at Tottenham Hotspur could end up harming his chances of finding a good move in the transfer window.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport today has a story on AS Roma’s transfer plans, as they’re expected to sign a centre-back in January.
The Serie A side’s intention is to get someone on a six-month loan, and then include a buying option. They don’t want to commit to a long contract right now because there’s uncertainty regarding who will be in charge of the club next season, both on the bench as in the sports management.
Dier does get a mention, with the newspaper pointing out that his contract with Tottenham expires at the end of the season.
Still, Corriere calls the defender a ‘dangerous signing’ for the club, and it seems the biggest reason for it is that he hasn’t been getting any minutes with Tottenham lately.
Therefore, a loan makes little sense, meaning they would have to fork out money up front for a 30-year-old with little game time under his belt.
An alternative for Roma is Everton’s Ben Godfrey, who at least was given a chance to prove himself against Burnley during the last weekend, where he excelled and caught the attention with his display.
