Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario has constantly been mentioned as a target for Inter Milan over the past few months.
A return to Italy is now edging closer for the goalkeeper.
Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio has already held initial contacts with the player’s agent Gabriele Giuffrida. Those talks came during a trip to London.
This was covered extensively by Sport Witness, with the Italian giants boasting an excellent relationship with Vicario’s entourage.
Giuffrida is said to have helped Inter with multiple deals in the past. The Tottenham player was also close to joining the Nerazzurri before he ended up in London back in 2023.
The deal is now picking up momentum, with the 29-year-old’s stance very clear.
Vicario agrees personal terms
L’Interista report today that the goalkeeper now has an agreement over personal terms over a move to Inter.
The Serie A leaders have put forward a four-year deal worth €3.5m per season, a figure likely to be after tax. This is higher than what the player currently earns at Tottenham and can drive the transfer.
The outlet confirm that Inter have already spoken to Vicario and his agent, with the ex-Empoli man having given a green light to the transfer.
He has, in fact, been left ‘honoured’ by Inter’s keenness to sign him. The player isn’t pushing for an exit but the Nerazzurri’s next step is to negotiate with Tottenham.
Our take: Deal should go through
There’s still months to go before the transfer window opens, but Inter are making quick progress to sign Vicario. This probably suggests that by June, the deal could be largely done.
The way the Italy international has regressed this season, Tottenham should be keen to part ways too. Vicario has shown weaknesses in and out of possession, clearly appearing like a shadow of himself since the Ange Postecoglou days.
Besides, there is every chance that Spurs end up with a better goalkeeper in the summer. A new manager will impose his own ideas and considering his weaknesses on the ball, Vicario will not be the best choice.
Problems may come over the transfer fee, with a belief in Italy that €20m, or even a little less, would be enough for Tottenham.
