Tottenham are one of the sides to have shown an interest in Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League may hamper any hopes of getting him.
That’s according to AS, who say the 26-year-old is ‘in the world showcase’ after his impressive performances for Girona last season.
According to them the winger is on the agenda of several clubs in Europe and while the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan have already gone as far as to make enquiries with his entourage Tottenham simply have him ‘on their agenda’.
The major downside for them at this moment in time is that they can’t offer Champions League football next season but have only qualified for the Europa League.
That’s something that could turn Tsygankov away as he’s made it clear he wants to play in the top competition, particularly after qualifying with Girona this season.
The Spanish side, for their part, are determined to keep the Ukrainian at any cost but a failure to get a new deal with the player signed to remove a €30m release clause in his current deal but that’s been ongoing since January without the conclusion they would have hoped for.
It’s perhaps that clause which is attracting Tottenham, who, while being able to potentially afford that figure may need to work hard to convince the player.
At the moment they don’t appear to have stepped forward but they’re certainly interested as they plan a big summer rebuild under Ange Postecoglou.
