Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but Real Betis are interested in signing Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that the Argentine ‘plans to force’ an exit from Tottenham this summer and Betis are more than keen to have him back.
They explain that Betis have not forgotten Lo Celso and he has not forgotten them either and contacts between the two parties ‘have been constant and fluid’ in recent months.
They’re moving ahead of the summer when Lo Celso will be in the final year of his contract and determined to get out of Tottenham by hook or by crook.
He’s upset by the lack of minutes he’s had under Ange Postecoglou this season and fears losing his place in the Argentina squad, particularly for the Copa America this summer, because of it.
He does not want to take any risks with the 2026 World Cup in his sights and so is determined to leave Tottenham and find a club where he feels comfortable and plays regularly.
Real Betis and Barcelona are his preferred destinations, but it is only really the former who are keen and preparing their bid to lure him back to the club.
They’re counting on Tottenham lowering their previous demands to help facilitate a deal, something they’re hoping will be the case as he’s entering his final year, and this is Spurs last opportunity to make money from a sale.
There is a fear that another offer from the Premier League could be tempting but Lo Celso plans to force matters so that he can choose his own destiny and he’s made it clear a return to La Liga is his preference.
Betis are doing all they can to ensure their proposal is the winning one and their board are ‘crazy about the reunion’ taking place this summer.
