In the final week of the summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur were pushed forward as a contender for AC Milan’s Franck Kessié.
The north London club couldn’t seal the deal, but continue to be named as one of the suitors for the 25-year-old.
His contract expires in 2022 and there has been no progress in renewing his current deal beyond this season.
Having made his first appearance of the campaign against Lazio last month, the midfielder went on to make five more appearances. The Ivory Coast international was sent off in the 29th minute against Atlético Madrid earlier this week.
Corriere dello Sport say Kessié seems to be ‘distracted’ with the contract situation, which has resulted in mixed performances and his sending off against Diego Simeone’s side.
With regards to the new deal, the outlet states the gap between supply and demand is now at €3m and it has not been reduced yet. Taking this into account, along with his recent displays, Corriere state ‘at this point we cannot rule out a sale already in January’.
The report further adds Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are ‘on the trail’ of Kessié and with the renewal talks distracting him, a transfer could be on the cards in the winter market.
