Tottenham have offered midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to ‘half the world’, including Real Betis, who dream of signing him this summer.
That’s according to Mucho Deporte, who say the Spanish side are eyeing him as an alternative to Nabil Fekir in the starting XI.
They explain that Betis are naturally concerned about the French midfielder, who is now 30 and likely to start suffering the affects of injuries in the past, including a serious knee injury in 2015 that saw him spend 213 days on the treatment table.
Everyone at the clubs trusts he will be okay long-term, but they don’t want to risk it and thus the links to Tottenham’s Lo Celso are ‘not accidental’.
Logically his name, which remains very popular at the club after a previous spell, is being used as a smokescreen after they failed to sign Dani Ceballos, who has instead renewed at Real Madrid.
There is also the fact that those in charge at the club ‘pine for him’ to add extra talent to Manuel Pellegrini’s side and provide much-needed cover should Fekir falter.
The problem at this moment in time is that it is ‘impossible’ for Betis to cover the cost of any operation, largely because of the high salary that Lo Celso currently earns at Tottenham.
Spurs are keen to move him on and have over him to ‘half the world’, including Barcelona, hence the reports of their apparent interest.
Nothing is concrete for now, however, with them and Betis seemingly trying to work out the financials of any possible deal, which at the moment outweigh their love for the Argentine.
