Tottenham defender Emerson Royal is a potential target for Atlético Madrid as they eye a new right-back, but the operation is currently ‘stuck’.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say Tottenham are ‘not even considering’ the operation that has been suggested to them.
The newspaper reports today that Atlético are finding it difficult to find a right back to close the gap that was created when Kieran Trippier joined Newcastle in the January transfer window.
The Spaniards don’t have much financial room in which to manoeuvre and so are working on a list of several options to mitigate that.
Tottenham defender Emerson is one of them, having been on the club’s radar for a number of years and tracked since he was at Real Betis.
However, that potential move is ‘stuck’ because of Tottenham’s refusal to accept the deal that has been proposed by Atlético.
They presented a loan deal with an option to buy, but Spurs are ‘not even considering’ that as they want to make their money back on a player who cost them €25m a year ago.
Any potential move to the Wanda Metropolitano is not going to happen, for the time being, then, although there is time for that to change.
Perhaps when Tottenham complete a deal for Djed Spence, their stance will change, but for now, they’re not keen on the deal Atlético have offered.
