Tottenham still want to move Alejo Véliz to the City Football Group in January, but at this stage the discussion is no longer about clauses. It is about money, structure and consent.

With no recall clause available anymore, Spurs have a very clear situation in front of them. To take Véliz out of Rosario Central before June, they need one of two things.

Either they pay compensation to the Argentine club, or they convince the player to leave now. Without that, the loan simply runs its course, as explained by Argentine outlet La Capital.

That reality has pushed the City Football Group to think bigger. Instead of sticking to a straight £8.5m (€10m) deal, Argentine reports now talk about a new proposal that could reach up to £17m (€20m). Another idea includes a buy-back clause for Tottenham in every transfer window, keeping long-term control in Spurs’ hands.

The intention would still be to place him on loan at Brazilian CFG-owned-side Bahia. Even so, the move remains stuck. For now, there is still no green light from either Rosario Central or the player, as reported by Rosario insider outlet Transfer Canalla.

Central’s position has not changed. The club hold real veto power and see no reason to rush into an early exit without extra money or an agreement. As things stand, they are perfectly comfortable keeping the striker until June.

Tottenham may be paused by player intention

The player’s stance also matters. Véliz is understood to want to stay in Rosario. And that preference continues to slow any attempt to accelerate the deal.

In short, Tottenham can still sell Véliz this month, but only by paying more or reshaping the deal entirely. City Football Group are testing creative solutions, yet both Rosario Central and the player keep pulling the handbrake.

Without new concessions, the most natural outcome remains the same: Véliz stays put until the summer.
