Despite having signed Radu Dragușin from Genoa, Tottenham are still interested in another centre-back, albeit one that will be a bit less expensive.
That’s Koki Machida, who currently plays for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, who would cost around €10-15m to buy in January.
While there was a belief that Tottenham had moved on, 7sur7 are reporting that Ange Postecoglou’s side are still ‘interested’ in the Japan international.
At 26 years of age, he would bring a chunk of experience, and would represent a huge profit for the Belgian side, who only spent €1m to sign him from Kashima Antlers after an initial loan.
However, there has been some reluctance to let him leave, and it’s said that unless there is an offer ‘impossible to refuse’, the aim is to keep him until at least the end of the season.
Currently at the Asian Cup with his country, Machida has been a rock for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions to date.
Earlier on in the transfer window, his manager Alexander Blessin made it clear he currently had ‘no fear’ of losing his player, and even if he did, he knows that’s part of football.
