An injury has forced Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso to miss the World Cup.
Spurs allowed the midfielder to return to Villarreal on a season-long loan deal in the last transfer window.
The Tottenham owned player was in firm contention to be make it to the Argentina squad, before he suffered a setback against Athletic Club Bilbao on October 30th.
TyC Sports now provide background on the efforts put in by the former Real Betis man to make himself available for the national team.
Lo Celso had so much desire to make it to the national team squad that he ‘even faced the insurer’ of Tottenham. This was known due to his firm position to avoid going under the knife, which he has not been able to avoid.
The 26-year-old is expected to be miss two months of action. During this period, TyC Sports state the insurer, and not Tottenham, will take care of his salary.
It’s said Lo Celso was ‘willing to resign two months of salary’, to carry out a conservative treatment, to make himself available for Lionel Scaloni.
His efforts haven’t been successful and he will have to undergo a surgery on Thursday, which will force the Spurs man miss the World Cup. Although he’ll not represent La Albiceleste in Qatar, Scaloni has proposed Lo Celso a chance to accompany the team to Qatar.
TyC Sports state: ‘The truth is that Gio, a person very dear to the group, is in a bad mood and his loss is great from the sports point of view.’
