Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso returned to Villarreal on loan in the last transfer window, after spending the second half of the last campaign with them on a temporary deal.

In his last outing for the La Liga side against Athletic Club Bilbao, the Argentina international picked up an injury.

On Tuesday, journalist Gastón Edul stated the Tottenham owned player’s injury is ‘worrying’ for his national team ahead of the World Cup.

The Yellow Submarine have four matches scheduled before the World Cup break and the 26-year-old will miss these fixtures for his club, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.

There is ‘maximum concern’ for Lo Celso as his latest setback has set off alarm bells at both Villarreal and La Albiceleste. He has undergone several tests, but the outcome of those have not been made official yet.

The Spurs man’s substitution was earlier considered as a precautionary measure, but from his environment, they now talk about a ‘more serious ailment’. This could force him to miss the FIFA tournament in Qatar.

Villarreal medical staff are in direct contact with the doctors of Argentina national team. In the next few hours, they will assess the treatment that Lo Celso will have to undergo.

Meanwhile, journalist César Luis Merlo states ‘Thursday is key’ to know whether the Tottenham midfielder will go to the World Cup with Argentina.

Lo Celso is expected to undergo new tests tomorrow and his presence in Qatar seems to be ‘complex’.

In another tweet, César Luis Merlo claims Lo Celso is being treated by several medical specialists at Villarreal.

As it stands, the South American’s involvement at the World Cup is ‘increasingly difficult’.
