Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has insisted he is ahead of schedule on his return from a foot injury.
Göteborgs-Posten cover comments from the Tottenham midfielder today after he was in the stands for Sweden’s clash against Algeria.
He has been missing from this international break after undergoing surgery in the middle of May after picking up an injury in the defeat to Crystal Palace.
That injury saw him miss the end of the season and the Europa League final win over Manchester United.
The Tottenham man recently made an appearance at Sweden training but insisted that he had been ordered not to speak about his injury by his club. That hinted the problem, which had been expected to leave him out for months, may be worse than feared.
The 25-year-old now has a positive update, though, insisting that he’s ahead of schedule in terms of his comeback from the surgery.
“It’s great, I’m ahead of schedule and can start walking now. It’s been a few months since I’ve been on the sidelines,” he told Viaplay during their broadcast of Sweden’s clash with Algeria.
“It’s early, but we’ll see,” he added when asked if he would be back for the World Cup qualifiers in September.
That return date is likely to be determined by Tottenham, who won’t want to rush Kulusevski back and risk any further problems. They certainly won’t want to do so for him to play for Sweden, especially with a new manager set to be in charge after Ange Postecoglou’s departure.
Kulusevski will undoubtedly be a part of the new man’s plans and it’s at least a positive that he’ ahead of schedule.
