Tottenham’s Timo Werner has been given hope that he will be in Germany’s squad for Euro 2024, after a phone call from Julian Nagelsmann.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the Tottenham man hasn’t completely written off the idea of being in Germany’s plans for the summer tournament.
They explain that the forward has spent this international break watching the national team from temporary home in London, having failed to make it into Nagelsmann’s squad this time around.
He’s managed to mostly impress at Tottenham since moving on loan in January but was unable to convince Nagelsmann to bring him back, with his last Germany appearance coming in June last year.
The door is not completely closed, though, with Werner enjoying a close relationship with the Germany boss as they are represented by the same agents.
Indeed, Nagelsmann contacted the Tottenham loanee before the international break to explain why he wouldn’t be in the squad this time around.
That conversation made it clear that he’s not completely out of the picture. On the contrary, the opportunity is there if he can shine at Tottenham.
It’s not entirely in his hands as if others continue to shine, they will be ahead of him, but if he can impress at Tottenham then he will be in with a shout, which is a significant improvement given where he was before he joined Ange Postecoglou’s side.
