Tottenham defender Eric Dier is Jose Mourinho’s ‘favourite name’ to improve Roma’s defence in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Tuttosport, relayed by Corriere Giallo Rosso, who say Mourinho is eyeing up a reunion with Dier given his current lack of playing time under Ange Postecoglou.
The newspaper explains that Mourinho wants to add a central defender to his squad in January, but FFP requirements means the club have to make a ‘limited search’ at best.
They want a loan with a right to buy or a player who is close to being released, perhaps someone in the final months of his contract available on the cheap.
The names currently being touted, including Jerome Boateng, do not convince the club or Mourinho and he instead wants a Tottenham reunion with Dier.
He is the Portuguese manager’s ‘favourite name’ on the list being drawn up and the fact he is out of favour under Postecoglou and has a contract which expires in the summer, which it seems unlikely he will renew, make him attainable.
Indeed, the belief is that Dier is ‘ready to leave Tottenham’ given he hasn’t played this season and would ‘welcome’ the move to Roma if it was on offer.
Spurs are also seemingly willing to do a deal and could ask for a ‘minimum bonus’ as compensation to let him go in the January transfer window.
