Over the summer, Tottenham planned for the future as they bolstered their left-back role with the signing of Destiny Udogie from Udinese.
The young Italian was immediately sent back to the Serie A side for the season to continue to develop and get minutes under his belt, which he has been doing.
He has, for the most part, done well, but it’s worth pointing out that Sunday’s game against Torino, which saw the latter win 1-0, was a night to forget for the young Tottenham man.
Gazzetta dello Sport are very critical of him, offering a rating of 5/10, and make it clear that his performance was a ‘draft copy’ of what he can normally produce.
They remind their readers that he was a player ‘strongly wanted’ by Tottenham, which is why he was ‘already bought’ by Spurs, but this was the kind of performance the London club will hope he gets out of his system before heading to England.
He ‘pushed very little’ in terms of going forward and ‘made many mistakes’ throughout the game, even at fault for Torino finding the back of the net, as he was ‘absent in the action of the goal’.Despite having the chance to close Ola Aina down, Udogie stood back and watched him put in the cross that found Yann Karamoh at the back post.
Still, there’s clearly a lot of potential there, but this is certainly a performance both Udogie and Tottenham will want to put behind them, as the 20-year-old prepares to move to the Premier League side at the end of the season.
