Fiorentina’s Nicolo Fagioli has attracted interest from Tottenham, who have now stepped forward for the midfielder.
La Viola signed the Italian permanently last summer after his initial loan from Juventus. This has paid dividends, with Fagioli showcasing his abilities in the second half of the season. He has been key in dragging them up the table, with Fiorentina having finished 15th.
Sport Witness have covered Roberto De Zerbi’s admiration for his compatriot. He was seen as a very good fit for the Italian’s setup and an offer was being considered.
With Tottenham’s survival now guaranteed, there have been movements around the player.
Tottenham approach noted
Corriere Fiorentino report on the futures of several Fiorentina players today. Fagioli is a player who has attracted attention, with Tottenham keen.
With De Zerbi’s side are competing with AC Milan, they have already made a move for the midfielder.
The newspaper do not offer specifics but it seems like Tottenham are in the lead for Fagioli.
Fiorentina have plans of their own, as things stand. Director Fabio Paratici sees him as the centre of the club’s project and would ideally want to keep him.
Depending on what offers land on their table, they may not have a choice.
De Zerbi holds key
Roberto De Zerbi is the likely driving force behind this move. He is a fan of technical midfielders and that led to the rise of Manuel Locatelli during their time together at Sassuolo.
Fagioli can benefit from that too. Tottenham themselves need to raise the technical level of their midfield.
The 25-year-old will offer that and he can also play across the midfield. At Juventus, he also played in attacking midfield, having settled for a slightly deeper role in Florence.
Convincing Fiorentina might not be a difficult task either. Fagioli’s current deal runs out in 2028, which can make 2026 their best chance to sell the player for a capital gain. Leaving a sale hanging until 2027 will not help them financially.
