Tottenham Hotspur have already identified Liverpool‘s Cody Gakpo as a target and have taken a formal step to sign him.
Two months ago, we relayed news of the Premier League side’s interest and the forward informing Liverpool he wants out.
On August 4th, Sport Witness covered claims Tottenham are preparing a bid over €60m. Spurs and Roberto De Zerbi are serious and want to bring the forward to the club this summer.
Tottenham formally register interest
Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update.
He says the Premier League side have formally expressed their interest in the 27-year-old with Liverpool. There’s no mention of the Reds’ response.
In another post on X, Blaauwhof reports Cody Gakpo is a ‘very important target’ for the north London club.

Signing Liverpool player difficult
Spurs have signed six players so far and Roberto De Zerbi has said there’s still some work to do this summer.
Manchester City’s Savinho is another attacking target. Earlier this week, Sport Witness exclusively revealed the Brazilian has held talks with the Italian.
According to Joost Blaauwhof, Savinho’s potential arrival in London isn’t impacting their ongoing pursuit of Cody Gakpo. That’s because the manager has different, specific roles in mind for the two players.
The VI journalist adds Tottenham Hotspur would find it difficult to sign the Netherlands international, providing no further explanation.
Last August, he signed a new contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €60m. This puts the Anfield club in a comfortable position to either keep him or negotiate the Dutchman’s transfer.
Liverpool can offer Champions League football while Spurs haven’t qualified for Europe. Despite this, earlier claims stated Gakpo wants to change clubs.
It remains to be seen whether De Zerbi can get his main target or if the player will continue at Anfield.
