Tottenham Hotspur and PSG have both asked about signing Manuel Ugarte, reports Monday’s edition of Record.
The 21-year-old is a regular for Sporting this season, playing in a defensive midfield role. Last season he was mainly used as a substitute by the Lisbon club, but sales in the summer window have seen his importance rise.
Ugarte had been promised a new deal this year and Record say Sporting are about to fulfil that promise, but they obviously want it to work for them too. As well as the Uruguayan getting a pay rise from around €400k to €600k, both yearly figures after tax, he’s also set for a new buyout clause.
According to the Portuguese newspaper, the amount will be €80m, an increase from his current €60m clause. That will make the club feel more protected in the face of growing interest, with Tottenham and PSG the only clubs mentioned.
It’s expected Ugarte will appear for Uruguay at the Qatar World Cup, something that will see his profile further rise and could attract more attention ahead of coming windows.
