In very surprising news, Tottenham have made an offer for a Barcelona player, and not just any Barcelona player: Frenkie de Jong.
The news comes from Jijantes in Spain, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal the news that the Catalan side have ‘received an offer’ from Tottenham of €60m, with variables included, and a contract of four years for the player.
This comes around the same time as claims Premier League sides were thinking about moving for the Dutchman, who is still struggling to fully find himself in Spain.
Tottenham now seem to be the most proactive, with it claimed that the deal offered by Daniel Levy and the transfer men at the club would give De Jong the same wages he is currently on at Barcelona as long as he achieves certain objectives.
In short, Spurs would pay him less to start with, but have given him incentives to match his current salary as long as he plays well.
If true, this is a huge move by Tottenham, who are clearly not short of any ambition these days, reinvigorated by Ange Postecoglou’s arrival.
It is also quite an interesting move a couple of weeks after beating Barcelona to the signing of Lucas Bergvall in a highly publicised transfer race.
