Tottenham Hotspur haven’t given up on signing Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma this summer, report Il Romanista.

The Premier League club have been linked with the player for a long time, and the report states that Fabio Paratici was keen even when he was at Juventus, with Antonio Conte also being a fan of the player.

It’s claimed Spurs have made a ‘new attempt’ for the signing, but that doesn’t seem to be in the form of an offer. Instead they’ve asked what Roma plan to do with Zaniolo, given his contract expires in June 2024 and it’s time to think about the 23-year-old’s future.

Tottenham were told that to take the player this summer will cost them €60m, and even then Jose Mourinho may work to block the move. This could all be posturing and there’s a good chance Roma would accept less if they’re not convinced they can secure a renewal.

Il Romanista seem confused as to why Conte would need Zaniolo, feeling the manager has enough options in attack already. They also bemoan the TV rights money available to Premier League clubs, which makes it possible for the best players at Serie A sides to be realistic targets to clubs like Tottenham.
