When Marcus Edwards left Tottenham Hotspur to join Vitória Guimarães a couple of years ago, the Portuguese side didn’t pay Spurs a fee for the move, but it was agreed that each club would get 50% of a future transfer.
That was a way for the London side, who were letting the winger go despite him still having a contract, to get something in the future in case he ended up being the subject of a big sale.
Well, it turns out that Edwards has been doing well in Portugal, and even though he could now join the league champions, Spurs might not get as much money out of it than first hoped.
It’s newspaper Correio da Manhã who today writes that Sporting are now interested in the player, and while they’ve set the 22-year-old as a target, they won’t do ‘something crazy for the signing.’
As Vitória Guimarães demand €12m for the transfer, the Lions consider the price to be ‘exaggerated’, which is why they’d rather pay only half of it and include other players in the deal.
Correio da Manhã writes that the selling club are somewhat ‘looking forward’ to the deal, because they know half of the amount they receive would go to Tottenham anyway.
So with a smaller amount of money and other assets included, that’s a way they could get a fair deal without having too much money getting sent to London.
