Tottenham Hotspur could well wield more power on the final day of the transfer window than they may have expected. In Germany a huge story is developing about PSG interest in Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler.
There’s talk of agents trying to build a deal and a possible PSG €75m (around £65m) offer for Draxler. German newspaper Bild believe that could be a significant amount, because they say it’s the player’s release clause, only applicable next summer.
However, Wolfsburg have already made it very clear they don’t want to sell Draxler, despite the player’s very frank interview at the beginning of August.
Draxler spoke to Bild on August 2nd and explained:
“For me it is so that I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks.
“Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want – which is to leave the club.
“I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs.
“It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another, if other clubs show interest.”
Still, the club’s general manager Klaus Aloofs has insisted no move will happen, but Bild suggest that Tottenham could hold the key to PSG getting their man.
Heung-min Son is, according to Bild, the subject of an approach from Wolfsburg which has been going on for several weeks, with them putting a possible fee at £30m.
The newspaper ask: ‘When the deal is done perfectly with Spurs – then Julian Draxler goes?’
If the PSG interest claims are true, and it’s not just the German media having window closing fits of excitement, then Daniel Levy may well wield more power than he expected as the deadline approaches.
