Tottenham Hotspur are chasing VfB Stuttgart star Hiroki Ito in the summer window, according to Bild.
The Japan international initially joined the Bundesliga side on loan in 2021 and his stay was made permanent a year later.
Bild say Ito has performed with confidence, and without making any big mistakes, in the recently concluded season, where he made 29 appearances.
The centre-back is in ‘great demand’, but Tottenham are the only club named in the report.
Tottenham have closely followed the 25-year-old, who can also operate as a left-back, and they are now chasing him. Taking his pace and ability to play from the back into account, Bild say the versatile defender ‘would fit in perfectly’ in the Premier League.
Ito has a €30m clause in a deal that expires in 2027, and this provides a route to a deal for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
They haven’t yet made an offer, and the report states that the north London club want to look at other options, before getting serious about the Japanese.
Spurs will play in the Europa League, while Stuttgart have qualified for the Champions League. According to Bild, Ito dreams of playing in Europe’s elite club competition, and this could make a deal difficult for Tottenham.
