Gareth Bale returned to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2020, seven years after leaving the north London club for Real Madrid.

The forward joined Spurs on a loan deal and during his time in the English capital last season, he managed 16 goals and three assists in 34 matches in all competitions.

He was back at the Bernabéu for this season, but has not featured for Los Blancos since the end of August. The 32-year-old has been forced away from the pitch due to two different injuries since then.

Once again, there’s been endless Spanish media and fan complaints that Bale cares little for Real Madrid and instead prioritises being fit for Wales matches.

The Wales international’s contract expires in 2022 and Florentino Pérez is ‘clear’ that he has no intention to offer him an extension. That’s according to Super Deporte, who say there are already several clubs ‘behind him’, and the ‘most interested team’ is Tottenham.

Bale has already impressed during his first spell with the Premier League club and hopes to recover his best version in the English capital. Spurs, however, would only want to take the player next summer, when he will be available on a free transfer.

Although Tottenham reportedly have the most interest in Bale, it’s made clear the Spurs manager will have the ‘last word’ on any return, so the situation ‘depends on Conte’.
