Tottenham Hotspur have now emerged as a surprise candidate to sign Boulaye Dia in the summer, according to Thursday’s Gazzetta dello Sport.
Salernitana took the striker from Villarreal on loan with an option to buy at €12m. He scored 16 goals and registered six assists this season, after which the Serie A side decided to make his stay permanent.
At the same time, it has also seen the 26-year-old draw attention from other clubs. Tottenham have been added to the growing list of suitors.
Danilo Iervolino, the Italian club’s chief, has no doubts over buying him. The question remains whether he’ll still be at Salernitana next season as the latter must watch out for the potential approaches from the Premier League.
It’s stated the Senegal international has entered the sights of a handful of clubs, including Spurs, Sevilla, Fiorentina, AS Roma and a few other clubs.
Tottenham and his other suitors in England have an edge because the player ‘dreams of a Premier League club’, but Dia won’t be able to fulfil the second part of that as he would like the club to play in a European competition next season.
On Wednesday, Corriere dello Sport reported Salernitana need at least €30m to sanction Dia’s sale.
Should Tottenham convince the player, then they must meet the Serie A side’s request to secure his services in the summer.
