Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic continues being reported by different sources from the Italian media.

At the weekend, it was Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari who claimed the 29-year-old is a target for José Mourinho’s side.

Now it’s RAI pundit Ciro Venerato who was on Radio Goal today claiming that Maksimovic is one of the names on Spurs’ list.

“Tottenham for January may need a central defender: there are five or six profiles that the English follow, including Maksimovic,” said Ciro Venerato (via Spazio Napoli).

Just like in the other report, there’s no claims on Tottenham initiating contact for the signing, or how much would it take to get Maksimovic from Napoli in this market.

With only five days to go until the end of the January transfer window, it’s starting to look unlikely there’ll be time to make a whole operation for players at this stage, unless Mourinho urges the club to rush for a defender.

Spurs’ only advantage in this case is that Maksomovic’s contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season, and since they haven’t been using him much, a deal would be easier to find.
