Tottenham’s interest in Lautaro Rivero is starting to look more significant. The River Plate defender continues to attract attention from across multiple markets.
The 22-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the club’s breakout performers this year. This came after returning from a successful loan spell at Central Córdoba.
A left-footed defender who prefers operating on the left side of a central pairing, Rivero has quickly established himself as a serious first-team option under Eduardo Coudet.
His performances have already prompted reports of interest from Chelsea, Brighton and Leeds. Fresh claims from Argentina now suggest Tottenham remain firmly in the picture.
Growing reputation brings more interest
According to La Pagina Millonaria, Tottenham are among several clubs monitoring Rivero’s situation. Roma were reportedly one of the first European sides to make enquiries. Meanwhile, Udinese have recently joined the race.
Mexican side Tigres are also credited with interest. However, the report states those close to the player believe a move to Europe would be the preferred next step in his career.
That stance could become increasingly relevant if interest continues to build over the coming months.
River moved to secure the defender’s future earlier this year, extending his contract until December 2029 and inserting a €100m (£86.5m) release clause. However, reports in Argentina indicate the clause is not viewed as a realistic transfer figure.
Instead, River are said to be seeking between €7m and €10m (£6m-£8.7m) if they eventually agree to a sale.
Why clubs are paying attention
Rivero’s profile helps explain the growing list of admirers. The defender combines physical presence with strong technical ability and is comfortable playing out from the back. Perhaps most impressively, he has yet to commit an error leading directly to a shot or goal.
