Tottenham are on the verge of losing Juan Foyth to PSG, according to several reports from Argentina, because of their insistence on part of the deal being made up of bonuses.

Last week Estudiantes president Juan Sebastián Verón flew to Europe to try and close a deal for Foyth, and the word sent back to Argentina explained a Tottenham transfer was close.

Tottenham were were prepared to pay €10m/$10m (depending on the report) and that was good enough for Estudiantes. However, that offer then turned out to be $7m plus a further $3m based on bonuses, spreading the payment and reducing the likelihood of Estudiantes getting all of the money.

This was unacceptable, but there was still confidence in Argentina that Tottenham would return, after-all a top Premier League club wouldn’t be expected to lose a youngster over such a disagreement.

However, PSG may have got there first. Cielo Sports and Pasion Futbol both say PSG have swooped in and beaten Tottenham.

The claims appear to have started via an Argentine football journalist on Twitter.

If true, and if Tottenham were genuinely interested, it’s a blow for Mauricio Pochettino and his recruitment staff. PSG will be paying €10.5m all in one go, with Foyth not required to jump through hoops to release the money.

After Tottenham lost out on Pau Lopez, or perhaps delayed his arrival to be a deadline day bargain special, it may have been considered they’d quickly wrap up the next youngster Pochettino and his team wanted.
