It would be intriguing to know just what Tottenham Hotspur are asking Espanyol to pay for Federico Fazio. Barcelona’s ‘other’ club are currently on a recruitment drive and Fazio is supposed to be one of those arriving.
But as other deals progress and edge closer to completion, Espanyol have Fazio on the back-burner.
Catalan newspaper Sport dedicate page 27 of their Friday newspaper to Espanyol’s transfers, and Fazio keeps getting smaller coverage. That’s not to say a transfer is dead, but rather Sport say it’s delayed because a conventional move would be too expensive.
Once again the idea of a loan with a purchase option is brought up. Given Fazio had a poor loan spell at Sevilla last season, Tottenham may well be better off bringing a fee down to a level which isn’t so expensive.
Selling Fazio now, after the Sevilla disappointment, may be difficult. Selling him for a fee in a year if he fails at Espanyol, and has a single season left on his contract, may be impossible.
