Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting are negotiating for Pedro Porro, according to AS.

Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and Djed Spence are the right wing-backs currently at Spurs and the trio have not managed to fully convince Antonio Conte.

The coach wants a new wing-back in January and Porro is the one ‘chosen’ by Conte. This has seen Tottenham sit down and negotiate with Sporting for the 23-year-old.

Porro has a €45m release clause and the Portuguese club have pointed towards this fee. This is currently the problem for the Premier League side because they want to pay less to sign the player in January.

It’s claimed the main argument used by Tottenham to lower the Spaniard’s asking price is the fee paid for other right-backs/right wing-backs in recent seasons.

AS points out the fee has not exceeded €30m, with Achraf Hakimi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain from Inter Milan in 2021 for €70m as the only exception. This suggests Conte’s side would not be willing to pay more than €30m for Porro.

Tottenham ‘hope to reach an agreement’ with Sporting to secure the Spaniard’s services, but for a fee less than €45m demanded by the Primeira Liga side.

With Spurs negotiating with Sporting, it needs to be seen whether they can convince the Lions to change their stance.
