When Tottenham Hotspur submitted their bid for the signing of Porto star Luis Diaz, the reaction from the Portuguese media wasn’t the best, both because the amount may not be enough, but also because of the player’s expectation to play for a club with bigger aspirations.

What we see in local newspapers today are stories claiming the race for the signing is open, as other Premier League sides may still join the race, and when they talk about Spurs, it’s said there’s still expectation from the club that they’ll get the transfer done.

Newspaper O Jogo features a story claiming Tottenham ‘haven’t given up’. It’s said that until the market deadline, the London side will ‘keep the hope of convincing Porto of selling Luis Diaz’.

However, it’s also pointed out that only a better offer will do that, as the Dragons should only sit to negotiate in case they receive something over €60m.

Meanwhile, newspaper Jornal de Notícias writes that this saga should indeed drag until Monday, when the transfer window closes.

They also claim that Tottenham now know the €45m in that first bid will not be enough to sign the winger, and now must raise the offer to have any chances, especially since other Premier League clubs could join the race now.
