Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing KAA Gent star Gift Orban, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
The Jupiler Pro League side signed the striker from Norwegian side Stabæk in January and he starred for them this year, scoring 22 goals and registering two assists from 24 games. He’s also got two goals from two games this season, which started at the end of July.
It’s no surprise the 21-year-old’s fine form has caught the attention of a few clubs and Tottenham are now added to the list.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are said to have registered their interest in the Nigeria international, contacting his entourage.
Bayern Munich are keen on signing Harry Kane and his exit would force Spurs to bring in a striker, perhaps more than one. This has seen them identify a few targets and Orban is as one of the ‘important names’ on their list.
Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck would like to retain the player but the report states the Belgian club are aware it’s ‘not going to be easy’, especially after Tottenham showed interest in him.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, Gent would need a club-record fee to sanction Orban’s sale. The current record is held by Jonthan David, who was sold to Lille for €27m in 2020.
Back in May, Orban told Het Laatste Nieuws that his “ultimate dream” is to make a switch to the Premier League.
