Tottenham will ‘have a lot to say’ when it comes to Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso, with rival bidders stating to circle for him.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that where the American may end up will depend heavily on what Tottenham want to do.
The newspaper explains that the current focus on Cardoso will be over his fitness, after he was subbed off through injury in the United States’ clash with Jamaica due to a blow he suffered in his left knee.
The hope is that he has just suffered a discomfort and nothing more, but he will undergo an MRI scan to reveal the exact extent of the injury either way.
His growing list of suitors will also be keeping a close eye on the matter as a move in the January transfer window becomes a distinct possibility.
Betis know he could be a ‘big sale’ and reports from around Europe have various clubs eyeing up a move. Milan in Italy are believed to be keen, Atletico Madrid have been interested in a while and a recent report in England even Aston Villa thinking about him.
In fact, it was claimed the Villans interest could prompt Tottenham to move to stop him joining a team they perceive as rivals.
Estadio don’t back this up, but they do say that Tottenham ‘will have a lot to say’ when it comes to Cardoso’s future.
That’s because they hold a purchase option on the player worth €25m, after negotiating it as part of the deal that saw Giovani Lo Celso move to Betis in the summer.
That option expires next summer, and they’ll lose any rights to him, although reports have indicated that they will keep a percentage on a future sale to another club.
Thus, even if they don’t sign the 23-year-old themselves, they’ll still have plenty to say in the matter in the coming months.
