In most times the Portuguese media talks about the future of Diogo Costa, it’s claimed that Porto have him well protected by a €75m release clause, and won’t let him go easily.
Tottenham Hotspur have labelled as one of the clubs who’d like to sign him, as there’s the wish to replace Hugo Lloris at the end of the season.
It turns out that as Portuguese newspaper Record today talks about Porto’s plans, they claim they may have to sacrifice Costa in the next transfer market.
The outlet features a piece claiming the Dragons would like to make €50m before investing in the summer. And since the sales are their main source of income, they may have to repeat the big departures they’ve been making in the past windows.
And it’s the Tottenham target who’s the main asset that Porto have to make big money right away.
It’s claimed that his sale is the ‘easiest way’ to reach their financial goals before thinking of making signings.
There’s no mention to Spurs this time, even though the London side have been heavily linked to the 23-year-old in the past few months.
In March, reports first said Tottenham see the goalkeeper as the ‘ideal solution’ to replace Lloris, and then it was claimed they sent scouts to see him in action, meaning an offer in the summer wouldn’t be a surprise.
