Lazio are eyeing a move for Tottenham youngster Bryan Gil, who ‘is not in Spurs’ plans’ moving forward and will be sold this summer.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Spaniard is one of several players that Maurizio Sarri is eyeing to bolster his squad.
They explain that Sarri wants to build a Lazio team capable of competing at the top of the table, particularly for Champions League football, and he is eyeing several signings to make that happen.
He would love to sign Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo, but he would be an expensive acquisition at €30m and Tottenham’s Bryan Gil is ‘among the options’ being considered as an alternative.
The 22-year-old has spent the second half of this season on loan at Sevilla, where he won the Europa League earlier this week, and has enjoyed solid development despite something of an up and down period at the club.
The loan deal taking him back to his former club only lasts until the end of the summer and is a ‘dry’ one, that is it does not include a purchase option.
Thus, his future ‘will be defined in July’, with Sevilla needing to enter negotiations with Tottenham over a permanent move if they would like to keep him.
They could now face competition from Lazio, though, as Sarri is a big fan of the player and feel ‘he can launch him into orbit’ as he did with others such as Felipe Andersen and Mattia Zaccagni.
If he does make a move, he’ll find Tottenham more than willing to discuss a transfer as the player is ‘not in Spurs’ plans’ moving forwards.
What they will ask for in terms of a transfer fee isn’t mentioned, nor is what Lazio would be willing to pay, just the fact that he is no longer wanted and has a new suitor in Italy.
