Emerson Royal went public last month to suggest Tottenham Hotspur should let him leave if he can’t be assured a prominent role next season.
AC Milan have shown keen interest in the right-back throughout this summer. They made a bid and it was turned down by Spurs as it was short of their €20m request.
Last week, claims from the Italian media reported that Tottenham’s tough stance has seen the Serie A side cool their interest in the 25-year-old.
Speaking to Radio Rossonera, Milan News journalist Pietro Mazzara has urged the Italian club to forget signing the Brazil international this summer.
Ange Postecoglou favoured Pedro Porro ahead of the Brazil international last season. The manager used the former Real Betis man mainly in other positions instead of his preferred role on the right side of the defence.
Emerson’s performances for the Premier League side was also sometimes subject to criticism from a section of Tottenham’s supporters. Taking these factors into account, Mazzara questions whether the South American is a better option than the existing players at the San Siro.
“Are we sure that Emerson Royal would be an upgrade compared to Calabria and Kalulu? Reading around the thoughts of the Tottenham fans, it almost seemed like they were praying that Milan would sign him,” he said.
“Milan tried to sign a player who is evidently not a first choice at Tottenham and who perhaps would have had a certain impact from a physical point of view in Italy. However, he lacks certain features.”
It’s clear the journalist is relieved that Milan’s pursuit of Emerson has collapsed, at least for the time being.
