Currently out with a cruciate ligament tear, Ivan Perisić will not be playing for Tottenham again, if the news from Italy and Croatia are to be believed.
That’s because the 34-year-old is returning to Hajduk Split, where he started his career, as reported by 24 Sata and Calciomercato.
The former explain that the player’s move to the Croatian side ‘is a matter of days’, and ‘only details’ are stopping him from being announced, according to ‘two high-ranking sources’ from the Croatian national team.
They explain that Hajduk’s president, Lukša Jakobušić, ‘went to London on several occasions’ where his job was to try and ‘soften’ Daniel Levy.
Then came the knee injury, which may have taken him ‘away from the field’, but also brought him ‘closer to Hajduk’.
If the move to his former team from Tottenham is confirmed, there is hope that he will be back on the pitch in the second half of April, giving him enough time to find a bit of fitness in hope of making his national team’s squad for the upcoming Euros.
However, 24 Sata explain a few matters still need to be worked out, such as how Perisic will be paid, because while an exit would allow Spurs to get rid of ‘considerable financial obligations’, he is still under contract there until the end of the season, and Hajduk cannot afford his €10m/year wages.
The belief is that Tottenham will actually save money by ‘terminating the contract earlier’, and the player will ‘give up part of the contract that will cover his insurance’.
Therefore, he will ‘get a chance to play a few games’ before the Euros, and Hajduk will get a great player in their bid to win the Croatian First League.
Over at Calciomercato, there is a belief that everything is done, and his ‘big return’ to his home country is ‘expected to be announced today’.
