Davinson Sánchez has seen his game time at Tottenham Hotspur restricted this season and has made seven starts in all competitions.
The Colombia international’s situation at the north London club has not had an impact on his position with the national team.
La Tricolor coach Néstor Lorenzo has included the Tottenham defender in his squad for the friendly against Paraguay in Florida later this month.
Colombia failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and the centre-back has shared his disappointment at not making it to the FIFA tournament. Sánchez is of the belief his country’s two draws against Paraguay in the qualifiers cost them a place in Qatar.
“Difficult, because it was one of the teams that did everything so that we couldn’t go to the World Cup, with the greatest respect for them. We’ll try to do our job, close the year with a good game for Colombia and do everything for our process to continue under construction,” he said, as quoted by Infobae.
“We are the first to recognise that the objective was not met, for us and for all Colombians it is not easy to see that all the teams are ready to go, and we are not. It is difficult, but with the greatest maturity, with the greatest responsibility as well. To turn the page and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Colombia not participating in the World Cup has seen Sánchez back a few of his Tottenham teammates to achieve success in Qatar. This includes Denmark, who have Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in their squad. The South American has backed them to be a ‘surprise team’ of the tournament.
“I will always support my teammates; I am very close friends with Hugo [Lloris], then I have Argentine friends, Brazilians too, the English are also favourites. Denmark, I think they can do a good job,” Sánchez added.
Denmark are in Group D, along with Australia, France and Tunisia. Højbjerg and Lloris will face each other on November 26th.
