On August 18th, La Vanguardia reported Clément Lenglet is still waiting for Tottenham Hotspur but their negotiations with Barcelona have cooled down. This was backed up by Sport on Wednesday, who also stated the transfer isn’t completely ruled out.
Thursday’s AS claims Tottenham still want the 28-year-old and the door could be opened for a transfer towards the end of the window.
The centre-back returned to the Camp Nou after spending the previous season on loan at the north London club.
He was expected to return to Spurs but that didn’t happen because they refused to meet Barca’s €15m demand. The report states no other club have come close to their request so far.
Ange Postecoglou has publicly admitted the need to bring in another centre-back after the Premier League side signed Micky van de Ven.
Lenglet could be an option as the newspaper states Tottenham ‘continue to insist’ on signing him.
The Catalan club are keen to get rid of the former Sevilla man and Spurs are the team that ‘most want’ to secure his services. However, they are refusing to pay the €15m requested by Barca.
Therefore, AS state a loan move is the ‘most solid option’ and Lenglet’s exit could be ‘delayed until the last day’ of the window.
